I think that all of us can agree that life has its challenges and we are often confronted with situations out of our control. If we don’t have ways to minimize the effect of life’s stresses, we can suffer mentally and physically from this strain. If you want to relieve some of the stress in your life and body, tapping is a tool to shift that energy and create a feeling of calm and wellbeing.

Tapping to Decompress | Mukha Yoga

The amygdala is the part of our brain that processes our emotions and activates our sympathetic nervous system responsible for the fight or flight response. It’s a primal signal of danger that was useful if there was a tiger lurking in the bushes. If we ignore potential danger, we could be harmed, but if we know that there is no danger and we unconsciously allow our bodies to stay in the stress of fight or flight due to all the modern stresses of life, day after day, it is detrimental to our health.

Cortisol, one of the major stress hormones our body automatically produces from this response, can overtax our adrenal glands and create illness. However, research shows there are tangible tools that we can use to decrease the release of this chemical in your body. There have been studies around the practice of meditation, yoga, and tapping that show they can reduce the effect of stress our amygdala creates.

Tapping can immediately decompress the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) by activating the parasympathetic nervous system (calm and relaxation). To get started with the powerful stress reliever, you can access my previous article, “The Practice of Tapping” or listen to my guided meditation “Tapping to Release Stress”.
