    Yoga for Healing

Many have found yoga to be an empowering tool to treat injuries, promote mental health, or manage chronic pain. Restorative yoga is a gentle and beginner-friendly yoga style that uses slow movement and meditative practices to rejuvenate, heal, and relax the nervous system.

Restorative yoga often uses the help of props, like bolsters and blankets, to support and hold the yogi so they reap the benefits of the gentle asanas. So we developed a collection of our favorite yoga gear and wear for practicing this healing yoga practice from the comfort of your home.

    What is trauma-informed yoga?

Trauma-informed yoga is tailored to address trauma’s impact on the entire mind-body system. The intention of this type of practice is to help a person suffering from trauma to center their minds and unhook from negative thoughts, inviting calm both mentally and physically.

    Restorative Yoga Gear & Wear

Restorative Yoga was developed in the late 1970's by Judith Lasater who studied under Iyengar. The orginal focus of restorative yoga was on healing illness and injury but many have found that it helps with stress and anxiety. Restorative Yoga is similar to Yin Yoga in that some poses are held for longer periods for the benefits of releasing tension from the body. However, unlike Yin Yoga where there may only be six poses throughout the class, Restorative may have only four with a deeper focus of relaxation and meditation.

The five core values of Restorative Yoga are relationship, respect, responsibility, repair and reintegration.

During a class, props like yoga bolsters, cushions, blankets, blocks and eye pillows are used so that a person can feel total relaxtion in a calm, quiet place. When a person begins to feels total relaxtion, the body can heal and the mind can slow down without the constant stimuli of the modern worlds. Depending on the yoga teacher, sound bowls might be used for vibrational healing.

At Mukha Yoga we offer a full selection of yoga bolsters, cushions, incense and eye pillows that can be used for a home or studio practice. Explore Our Bolster Selection.
